Disaster.
– Our movers arrived four hours late. Bellhops had some problem with their payment method that morning renting the truck from Penske.
– The movers were upbeat and kind. Positive and personable, they were the best part of the move.
– We were assured by Bellhops several times that they would have a dozen blankets and a dolly with the truck, and that we did not need to provide these items ourselves. The movers arrived with none of these. Several pieces of furniture were scratched and damaged as a result.
– Bellhops determined we needed a medium-sized truck. After giving them the full list of items I emailed them to confirm that they felt confident about this size. They assured me this was plenty of room. Our items did not fit in a medium-sized truck. We had to make two trips to move. (As a result, we were unable to stop at my studio space, which caused me to have to pay additional rent on that space.)
– By the end of the move the movers were exhausted and began dropping our things. Having had to wait for the truck themselves that morning, having had a move before ours, and having to make the unanticipated second trip, they were obviously wiped out.
– In trying to sort through this Bellhops offered a discount on the move. But it didn’t work out to my satisfaction. I felt that I shouldn’t be charged for the truck, as it was improperly sized and didn’t come with the promised equipment. I also felt the company should discount the cost of the move. They sent an invoice, updated with these discounts reflected, or so I thought. While the invoice reflected these discounts their email said there would still be a truck rental fee later in the link they sent. I felt cheated by this communication and unhappy with their proposed discount.
– I called again to try and sort it out but they refused to offer any more of a discount, despite the fact that I was having to pay more to rent my studio as a result of their negligence. They did offer to give us more movers for the studio space. By that time I did not feel comfortable dealing with them any further.
– We are currently filing a damage claim for the scratched, marked, and broken items.
I was planning on using a container or trailer to move my 3bd, 3ba home from Natomas out of state when I called Kevin for an estimate on labor for loading. After talking over the move and pricing, and comparing what you get with Upack and PODs (along with the inflated monthly storage fees), I decided to have Kevin and his guys (at Make Your Move) perform the complete move. The three guys that showed up treated my stuff as if it was their own. There was no dropping of the lightest box to the heaviest bookcase, couch, or gunsafe; they were just as gentle during the unloading as the loading. The guys were professional, courteous, and respectful. I though the price was reasonable as it will save me $$$ in the long run with unexpected/inflated charges from the container companies. I would recommend this company to my family and friends.
