UPDATE 6/30/17:
Resolution with Colonial, who has assured me that they are working on better subcontractors in Los Angeles and customer assistance. Chris G. was most helpful in a positive outcome.
STAY AWAY from this company at all costs. Read on, if you care to, BUT IF YOU HIRE THEM, YOU WILL BE COMPLETELY SCAMMED, YOUR ITEMS RUINED AND LIED TO AT EVERY TURN. AND TO TOP IT OFF, THEY WILL BE LATE.
1. Fraudulently underbid a binding estimate by HALF, in order to get me to sign a contract.
They will say that you pay by weight, but they will revise your quote based on boxes and then make that number stick.
2. Never explained that they were brokers, not movers, even told me to get a parking permit for an 18 ft truck, further deceiving me that THEY were movers. A subcontractor showed up on moving day, with two movers in an unmarked truck, and when I was confused about who they were demanded that I make a decision to use them or they would leave.
3. 10 -15 days late. Many items broken and damaged. 10-15 boxes lost. and 10 more unlabeled. Boxes crushed. The items broken were not due to packaging preparation. 2 custom made chairs broken. One dragged on the ground and upholstery ripped. the other one, chair leg broken. Irreplaceable vintage glass pendant broken.
4. They will not care. They will misrepresent who they are. My initial contact who swore he would be my contact throughout the move and gave me the first binding estimate, disappeared right after (no longer with the company or on leave of absence)
only to re-appear after delivery.
5. You cannot trust the weight tickets. Even movers on both ends told me I was being ripped off.
6. It was the most stressful experience I’ve had, bar none, and as I look around with so many missing and broken items, I know that no one at that racket, Colonial, will be of any help.
But, they’re really good at reading scripted responses, if you like that sort of thing.
