Good day. I am from Lebanon. Am looking for a job. Oiler or seaman. I have new certificate
I had to move back from Texas to California. Everything was going well until the end. I had a binding estimate with Hyundai Merchant Marine over the phone for $1600. Next, the actual movers confirmed the move and delivery with a $1607 e-receipt as well. I was very happy with the deal and ready to move back home to California. As soon as we got back to California, a representative of HYUNDAI MERCHANT MARINE said I still had a remaining balance even after two confirmed receipts and payments, all of this the day before delivery. Very upset, I told the manager I would not be paying because we had already agreed/confirmed on a price. The day of the delivery comes and I still have to argue with the manager to deliver my items. My items get delivered, they say it’s all good. A couple hours after the delivery the manager calls again saying that there is a remaining balance/additional invoice and it must be paid. An additional $774! I eventually end up paying because they threaten me with collections! I read up on moving scams and this is one of them. The issue has become so prevalent that it made headline news. An additional invoice out of nowhere after you’ve paid a binding estimate. At least I got my delivery of items; others all over the country have had their items held hostage while additional storage fees were compounded until they paid the additional surprise invoice. The Department of Transportation in 2014 passed a bill with President Obama and Congress to fine companies $10,000 per day and even the closure of their moving business for these types of fraudulent acts. Once an agreement has been made, a payment charged and receipt sent, there should be no surprise invoice and customer’s items being held hostage. This ruins people’s lives and I’m lucky enough to have the extra funds to spare. This was the worst customer experience of my life and I hope others do not experience this fraudulent creation of additional invoices with the threat of your precious, important and valuable belongings being held hostage until paid. It was all over the news. This is a moving scam! Be careful of working with any moving company like Hyundai Merchant Marine. If you have the time and this happens to you, please report it to the Department of Transportation.
