* I am dismayed to see that Jim Hewelt and Hewelt’s Moving & Storage (now doing business as HMS Moving) is still around to gouge, cheat and abuse unsuspecting customers. I believed they had gone out of business in the fall of 2014 after their phone numbers were disconnected and I received notice of their filing Chapter 7 Bankruptcy in order to avoid a lawsuit I brought against them in August 2014.
* I was a customer/ victim of theirs from 2013- 2014 when they stored my belongings for 15 months and then moved them from MI to FL. Jim Hewelt was dishonest, rude, slow, late and threatening from the time my belongings were loaded onto his truck to begin the journey to FL up until the disconnection of his office phone line towards the end of June.
* Jim was 4 days late for a pre-scheduled delivery and over 2 hours late each morning of the 2 day unload. The crew he hired locally sat on my front lawn for hours waiting for him to arrive.
* Despite the delays the first item on his agenda was to collect a certified check for the move- he would not start unloading until he received it.
* Many items never made it to my new home, many of those that did were damaged, some beyond repair. Jim attempted to leave another customer’s possessions at my house.
* No inventory tags or listing of items was used- there was no way to tell what had gone into his storage facility and what was subsequently delivered to my house
* A high value box of firearms was accidentally left in Michigan at his office. When I notified him of this Jim promised to ship them to me at his expense immediately upon his return to Michigan.
After 4 days I phoned to follow up and discovered that the office phone had been disconnected and Jim refused to answer his cell phone. I hired a private investigator to retrieve the firearms which Jim unwillingly turned over to my agent and shipped them to FL at my expense.
* I submitted all expenses (damages & shipping costs) to Jim for reimbursement as he agreed to in writing but never heard back from him again.
* I filed a lawsuit small claims court in MI in August 2014 but was prevented from having my case heard as Jim and Hewelt hid behind a bankruptcy filing.
Don’t waste your time here you’ll be interrogated for no good reason.I’m mailing a harmless object wrapped in cardboard and bubble wrap! I’m surprised I didn’t get strip searched! Staples is much more friendly,normal and easier.
Third time around visiting and sadly encountering the lovely Denise not being that great with her customer service skills as she always has like a dark cloud over her shoulder but Tammy on the other hand is pleasant and receiving. Decided to take my business elsewhere as the energy encounter with Denise was not the suitable one as I was just asking her politely for a sticky note to attach to a card that I was sending out, I ended up calling her greedy as she had oppose to acknowledge or assist me with such. It’s quite appalling to say the least.
Chris and John were fantastic and so quick! They moved me in 3 hours on the dot and they were friendly and professional the whole time. Sal gave me a great price too! The most reasonable quote I got for the busiest moving week of the year. Sal was also super responsive and answered any questions I had. Will be using them again in the future and will be recommending to anyone needing movers!
